What is hypnosis?

In the simplest terms, hypnosis is a state of focused attention.  If you’ve ever been so absorbed in reading a book, watching Netflix, or listening to your favourite music, and blanked out the background, then you’ve been in a state of focused attention.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

If you can listen, focus your attention on my voice and want change, then yes you can be hypnotised.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes, absolutely!  You are the one in control and you choose what suggestions you take on board and what ones you don’t.

What does hypnosis feel like?

It varies from person to person; but usually it’s a sense of complete relaxation.  Some notice how deeply relaxed they are during hypnosis, others don’t realise until after the session.  When in hypnosis, it allows you to be an observer without attachment of emotions.

Can people be made to do things against their will?

No, you are in complete control.  I’m essentially your co-driver, I can provide suggestions to help you navigate the track, but you are the one making the decisions behind the wheel.

How many sessions will I need?

The average most people require is 3 – 6 sessions. This does vary from person to person, depending on what we’re working on, your commitment between sessions and how ready you are for change. We will discuss this during our first session once we’ve had the time to chat.

What is Zoom and are the sessions effective?

Absolutely. Zoom is  just like Skype but more reliable. All you need is somewhere quiet and comfortable to sit so you can focus.  Over the coming weeks working together, you will be required to listen to the recorded sessions (20-30 minutes of hypnosis) in between us catching up, so it will be a normal part of the treatment plan.

How is hypnotherapy different to other therapies?

It’s not talk therapy which is what attracts a lot of people.  I’m very fortunate to have trained in a modern form of strategic hypnosis, so my clients don’t need to go into a lot of detail for me to understand how to work with them and create change. I work with a brief, solution oriented approach, which means most clients only need to see me for 3 – 6 sessions, not years like most talk therapy.
