Hypnosis for Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour
Obsessive compulsive behaviour is born from anxiety. It’s about soothing a thought or a feeling. You know the nagging thought/feeling that drives you to straighten the remote, straighten towels, have impeccable organisation of the apps on your phone.
Anxious thoughts can influence your behaviour, which can be helpful at times. When it becomes repetitive and intrusive is when it isn’t helpful. It’s ok to check the car door to make sure it’s locked, it isn’t helpful if you have to check it multiple times, knowing it’s locked.
It’s thoughts that are recurring, intrusive and unwanted that are unhelpful and can influence unhealthy patterns of behaviour. If you are struggling with obsessive compulsive behaviour, you are probably aware of the irrational and excessive patterns, and find the obsessions and compulsions difficult to resist and control.
For some, this behaviour can also have a flow on effect in other areas of their life. Some may have strict ideas on what is right and wrong and expect things to be done a certain way. It leaves them inflexible and more susceptible to experiencing annoyance in others.
This is common, and I have had one client have a realisation after a hypnosis session saying, ‘I thought everyone else had the problem, but it wasn’t them, it was me!’.
When you let go of unnecessary restrictions, you invite joy back into your life because flexibility opens the door to new and different possibilities, allowing you to have more freedom.
